What is IELTS Speaking?

Introduction​

IELTS Speaking test is face to face test with an examiner. IELTS examiner could be native English speaker or India based English speaker. This test will be same for both IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training. You still have to face this besides your mode of IELTS exam; Computer based or Paper based. This test last for 11 to14 minutes and examiner will record whole conversation. This recording will be used if you will ask for rechecking. IELTS examiner can interrupt you while answering to control exam length.

  1. Greeting and Check ID

    You must carry your passport when you go for IELTS exam because IELTS examiner will ask for your passport to verify your name and other detail.

  2. Introduction and interview
    Part 1
    Examiner will ask general questions about your home, family, work, studies and interests. (4-5 minutes)
  3. Individual Long term
    Part 2

    the examiner will give you cue card having any topic. He will also give you pen, paper and one minute to prepare that topic. After one minute, you have to speak for about two minutes on that topic. The examiner may then ask one or two questions on the same topic. (3-4 minutes)

    Example 1: Describe your dream workspace.

    You could say:
    What it would look like
    what facilities it would have
    where it would be

    Example 2: Describe an interesting talk or lecture you have heard or attended to.

    You could say:
    Who was the speaker
    When and where you heard and attended it
    what is was about

  4. Two way discussion
    Part 3
    Examiner will ask questions based on your answer of cue card topic. This way he will  discuss more abstract issues and ideas. (4-5 minutes).
